Say what???!!!!! Technicolour Eyeliner Goodness!!

Seriously!  Get ready for some non-pornographic good times!

I gotta admit, choosing the music is one of my favourite parts of these videos...

On to the next mission!  Happy non-porno good times to you all!

Technicolour 80's porn stars + Rice Pudding for the masses

So today is a good day for me aaaaaand you!  For me because we have some awesome visitors coming today to play for a week!  Woohooooooo!!!  For you, because I have two awesome awesome tips for you.

Tip 1:  I was playing with my makeup for an event I was going to, and stumbled upon the trick of all tricks...  I will name it the "Technicolour Dream Eyeliner Technique".  Wholly Santa Shiz, I can't believe I hadn't thought of this before!  I wanna get right to it because it's opened up a world of ideas and options for eye makeup.  For this technique to work it's very important to start with an eyeliner that's soft, and smudges easily, otherwise you won't get the true effect.  My absolute favourite is Stila's Kajal Eyeliner in Onyx...  It's breathtaking, easy to use, has great pigment, and is perfect for this technicolour technique, not to mention one of my favourites for doing the inner rim eyeliner.  It's not exactly rocket science, however, somehow this technique has alluded me for so many years...  Here she is:

Start by lining your top lash line (It doesn't have to be perfect at this point, just get some pigment on there, and some product to work with).  Next take the colour of your choice (like a shimmery green - which I've done a video for and is currently in the editing process...  As a teaser it's called non-80's-pornstar green eye makeup tutorial, so get ready - or a pretty purple, or a vibrant blue...  Even a luscious brown; the options are endless) and blend it along your lash line creating a deep and pigment-rich eyeliner.  The black eyeliner acts as a bonding agent for the shadow, and melds together with the shadow so you can fake a liner that has major staying power, and a fantastic effect!!

I'm so stoked on this technique because although I've always been a fan of using shadow with an angled brush as an eyelining technique, the colour was never rich enough for me, and it tended to wear off (great for more natural looks though!)...  The Technicolour technique eliminates this issue, and with a little colour wheel knowledge, you can create endless shades!!  Some of my favourites thus far are:

Dark brown eyeliner + Shimmery purple = Delicious deep maroon
Black eyeliner + Vibrant blue = Gorgeous royal blue/Navy
Black eyeliner + Shimmery Green = Sexy smokey dark green
Black eyeliner + Copper shimmery shadow = Flaming hot deep gold

Okay okay okay...  I have a billion things to do, but before I get to it, I have to share my 2nd tip I have for you!!!!  Are you a fan of rice pudding?  If not, have a good day and try some eyeliner techniques (i.e. beat it)!  If yes, I have a low-cal, quick solution for you!  I always have leftover rice around (I'm actually obsessed with rice and soy sauce - Sooooo delicious), and this morning I needed a second breakfast (you know what I mean... when you're starving an hour after eating?  Kinda annoying), and in my rummaging through the fridge I found my go to:  Rice!  But it was only 9am, and I didn't want salty yet, so I decided to try an experiment...   I heated up the rice in the microwave with a couple of Tablespoons of milk.  Then I took it out, piping hot, added a couple of Tablespoons of Greek Yogurt (OMG so good) a pinch of cinnamon, and a lil' splenda.  I mixed it around until everything was blended, and was delighted with the result!!!  It is going to be my new snack as of now.  I had white rice, but I'm sure it would work with brown rice as well...  The Greek Yogurt is super high in protein, Cinnamon has a million health benefits and tastes amazeballs, and Rice loves me!  What else could a girl ask for?!

Squeeee!!!  I'm a lil' hyper stoking on my sister-from-another-mother (seriously, it's uncanny....  Dad do you have something to tell me?  I have a couple of these...) to come here and by pseudo brother as well (said faux-sister's husband).

Editing of video almost complete, just think of 80's porn for some ideas of what the makeup will NOT look like.

Makeup Tutorials & Vein checks. Can you be a red head?

My video featuring Leigh, and a fresh, romantic, springtime makeup tutorial is ready for your viewing pleasure!  It was so fun making this video!  Oh man I love makeup, squeeee!!!!

You know what else I love?  Hair (on the head that is).  The right colour, cut, and style is so important for every person to be the most beautiful version of themselves...  I've spent many years obsessing, changing, and experimenting with my hair colour, and thanks to thousands of dollars, and probably a year of my life of sitting in a stylist's chair, and internet research, I've got a pretty good idea of what hair colour suits each person.  Every person can be a ravishing redhead, sexy brunette, or minxy blonde, but the shades, depths, and tones of these colours will vary greatly!  For example, let's take a look at a few of my favourite hair transformations:

Black to blonde (+ new nose) to red... Love it all
From Blonde to Deep brunette, Nicole knows what tones suite her skin colour
Love her in all of these colours, especially the platinum blonde
Deep brunette and warm caramel/red are my favourite colours on Lindsay

Celebrities are not the only ones that can change up their hair colours...  I posted a series of my hair colour changes, as well as a major hair transformation of my girlfriend Erinn here; and my girlfriend Chrissy has successfully been a blonde, redhead, and recently, a brunette!  Behold!
Blondie with her cutesy baby daughter
HOT redhead!  Everyone thought this was her natural colour!
On her way back to blonde from red
Newly brunette!
So what does this mean for you?  Perhaps a whole new look!  Before you take the plunge, take a look at your vein colour:  Do they look blue or green?  Green looking and you are most likely a cooler tone; ashy blondes, neutral brunettes, and cool reds will look best on you.  Blue veined beauty?  Think caramel, warm browns, and deep auburns to complement your skin tone.  Your best friend besides a brow threader?  An HONEST hair stylist that will tell you "NO, you will look like a corpse if you do this" when you request the raven locks of Demi Moore; and who will guide you in the right direction in hair-makeover-dom.

New idea:  Anyone copy a video tutorial's look successfully?  If you have, take a picture and send it to me!  I will post a winner every few weeks (no cash prize, but recognition should be enough)!  The best one thus far comes from Kat who did the double layer technique and Brigitte Bardot inspired eyemakeup!!  Kat even came up with a name for this contest... "To a T".  She's smart and Hot!!  Betch.

Oh my, aren't you precious!
Spring up your makeup and consider a new hair colour...  Just don't get sowee at me if you hate it.

What's that in your pocket? Spring has Sprung!

Yayayayay, it is ridiculously beautiful here in Houston...  The flowers are starting to come out, and on my run this morning, I actually stopped to smell them (in reality I was just tired, but onlookers wouldn't have known that). This Springyness has resulted in a million makeup ideas rolling through my head.  Spring time reminds me of fresh, new, light, earthy, colourful...  And in terms of makeup, the exact same thoughts apply.

For the eyes:  Light lavenders, blended with soft browns and golds; deep auburns, brightened with copper and champagne highlights; soft greens, complemented with rich neutrals.  The skin is all about adding a healthy glow; a dewy finish, with strategic highlighting to reveal a softer, more radiant look.  And the lips....  from bright red, to soft pink, playful colours and glossy finishes will complete your springtime look!

I have the lovely Leigh acting as my model today as I reveal one of my Spring inspired makeup tutorials...  I'm so excited to post it!  Give me a few hours and it'll be ready for your viewing pleasure.  In the meantime, add a little highlighter to your cheekbones, some glossy colour to your lips, and a take a shot of something...  tequila always brings out the flush in my face :) tehe

Photoshoot fun and Prime time crease help!

I've got the photos from Friday's Crowne Plaza River Oaks Photoshoot!  Gary and his team at Red Photo Photography did an incredible job!  The light and image manipulation is amazing and truly shows what skilled photographers I had a chance to work with.  Some of my favourite photos from the shoot are below.  I will also be updating my website's portfolio later today with some of the wedding shots!!  Woohoo!!!

Let's talk primer.  There are two areas that makeup primer is important for:  the eyes and the face.  Don't understand the purpose of primer?  That's ok; even as a makeup artist/obsessor, I don't wear primer daily, but there are many women who do.  Why?  Because it helps makeup last longer, it can soften the appearance of fine lines, and reduce the visibility of large pores; specific primers can help with oil control as well as counteract any redness in the face (eg. Rosacea). There are so many kinds of primer out there, that it can be confusing, but after trying out what feels like a million different brands, I've come up with a few favourites.

For the Face:

  1. MAC Matte:  This Matte-ifying Primer, is fabulous to reduce shiny, oily skin.  Apply over your moisturizer, wait a couple of minutes, and then apply your foundation.
  2. Smashbox Photofinish Foundation Primer:  Apply the same as above - helps to fill in fine lines, reduce the appearance of pores, makes makeup longer, and has skin-soothing antioxidants!  Amazeballs!

For the eyes:

  1. Too Faced Shadow Insurance:  This stuff is FABULOUS!  Put it on before you put on your eyeshadow and you will never have creased, greasy lids again!  It also helps in making sure your eyeshadow application is blended and even.
  2. MAC Paints:  What I love about these is they come in a variety of colours, so you can use a neutral base and build on it with whatever colours you chose, or you can use a darker one, and build an incredibly rich (and crease free!) smokey eye.
Happy Friday!!  Don't high five anyone today...  Only side or low fives.  It will make the world a better place.

Mary Poppins made a makeup case + Rage

Yesterday I splurged and got a new travel case for my makeup.  It's breathtaking on every level...  I know that I recommended using an actual toolbox from a hardware store to put everything in (which I still stand by, and do), but it started to become awkward when I would arrive to a job, with my huge toolbox, and people would be like "am I that bad that you have to reconstruct my whole face?"  Touché.  It was all a lil' industrial (not in a hip way), and so I have converted to using my sleek lil' guy for travelling/on-sight stuff, and keeping the hardhat box for storage....  Behold:

The said lil' guy
Which opens to this...
Which opens to this...
And is accompanied by this.
Oh the organization fun I had last night!!!  As a self-diagnosed OCD type of person, I loved going through everything, labelling, condensing and arranging...  The husbo was away on business, so I couldn't share my excitement with him; therefore I creeped over to my neighbour's house, set up some false pretences of beer and trashy TV good times, and TRAPPED him!  Poor boy had no idea what he was walking into:  I talked a little too loud and positioned myself in front of the TV so he would have to focus on me as I showed him the new purchase.  I kept saying "Appreciate this!  It's seriously life-changing!!  Do you understand??!"  He didn't, but he sat through it.

It's all the leaf blowers fault!  Yesterday's poo-stash incident that is (I'm ashamed to admit that this was the second time in my life that I've had dog sh*t in and/or around my nose...  That's 2x too many).  The reason I wiped my nose with a poopy finger yesterday is because my allergies are outta control.  The reason my allergies are outta control is because there is every gardener this side of Indiana in my neighbourhood using an effing leaf blower do create dust storms, and blow leafs on to someone else's property.  What is the point of these things????  They are loud, useless, create MORE MESS, blow dust around, aggravate my allergies, and make me wipe poo in my nose.  This morning I went for a walk with Dugg for his morning routine, and was greeted by a thick cloud of blowing dust, that immediately stung my eyes, and filled my nose.  It was also so loud with various blowers going off that it made me think of being in some unknown stage of hell; like being surrounded by killer bees.  Uff, since I hadn't yet had my morning coffee (which equals not-fun-Théa), I actually asked a gardener who was blowing dust in my path, to turn off his blower, as it was insulting my breathing and walking space (note I first had to get his attention with some frantic waving and generally weird movements).  He looked at me like "ummm I'm doing my job, and no".  His foretelling stare left me feeling defeated, so I walked on and as soon as I was 2 feet away, he started the effing blower again.  I turned around and slapped my thighs and said "NO!!".  WTF is wrong with me?   Poor Dugg (and gardener), he thought he did something wrong, but really it's just his mum having bitter feelings over snorting poop.

Beauty tips to come!  I'm off to the studio to check out it's progress and I may get some shots from last week's photoshoot at the Crown Plaza!!

Don't get mad at innocent gardeners and don't wipe poop in your nose.  That's my advise for now.

Wholly Santa Shiz!

Get ready for the best video ever (at least in the history of Théa video making)!!!  There's music, a guest appearance by Dugg the Dog, lessons on zit coverage, day-time face makeup, and perfect eyebrow filling!!!!  Your day - no, life - just got better friends.  It's over 10 minutes, so grab a coffee and have a private dance party.  PS:  The music continues on after the video is done for some reason.  Will deal with fixing that on the next post haha.  Just keep dancing.

As a lil' side bar, today I had the pleasure of picking up a steamy dog poop with a bag that, unbeknownst to me, had a lovely lil' hole in it.  I didn't realize it quite in time, and scratched my nose...  That's right!!! With the poopy finger!!  I gave myself a poo-stash.  I was wondering why the eff it smelled so strongly of sh*t and then realized because it was in my nose.  I had to walk for 30 minutes before I could get home and basically snort soap to get the smell and substance out.

Poo-Stash Pheasey.  You can call me that for the next 24 hours.  No longer.  FML.
